Cargill Recalling 36M Pounds of Ground Turkey

As if we needed another outbreak to make us learn our lesson, Cargill has announced a recall of 36 million pounds of ground turkey. This translates to approximately over a million turkeys. This strain is said to be resistant to several different antibiotics. According to the Centers for Disease Control, foodbourne diseases cause approximately 76 million illnesses, over a quarter million hospitalizatoins, and 5000 deaths in the U.S. each year. As I outline hear, the only way we are going to prevent more suffering is by shifting to a cultured-meat society.

Where does salmonella and e-coli come from? Quite literally.... shit. When will we, as a society, understand that forcing animals against their will to be in incredibly cramped and disease infested conditions, raping them, and killing them, will only cause US harm? Do we honestly believe there will be no repercussions? Paraphrasing the famous words of John F Kennedy speaking to the nation on equal rights: "If he cannot enjoy the full and free life which all of us want, then who among us would be content to stand in his place?" Who among us would be content to stand in the place of these animals?
